MPSA – Jetty Facility

Client: Minera Panamá S.A. 2016

Minera Panamá S.A., the project consisted of the construction of the first marine mining terminal in Central America to be used for the unloading and loading of coal and copper concentrate, respectively. The project is located in the Atlantic Ocean, 60 nautical miles west of the city of Colón, Panama. The work was divided into distinct work fronts, developed simultaneously:

• Access Trestle 460 m in length, entailed driving 54 steel piles with lengths of up to 40m, followed by the installation of steel trusses for the installation of the coal and copper transport belts.

• Service platform with an area of 2,400 m2 for the installation of the ship loader for the loading of copper concentrate.

The work schedule consisted in developing the works at the various work fronts in parallel, by means of an auxiliary trestle, from which the final works were constructed, and the use of two marine platforms (Jack Up barges). Given its remote location, procurements were delivered by means of barges (2,200 ton capacity) and tug boats, from the area of Colón. The project implemented 9 crawler cranes with capacities ranging from 150 tons to 300 tons.
