National Mining Congress: 9 – 10 May 2019. Cartagena de Indias, Colombia

With the slogan “Sustainability is our greatest resource”, the Colombian Association of Mining – ACM, has bring together the main actors of the mining industry, to discuss and exchange concepts about the future of the industry under the new principles of sustainability that govern the modern world. IMI is present in partnership with ConSalfa, in a solid union of experience and capacity participating in the development of this important industry.

2nd Latin America Ports Forum. Panama. April 3 & 4.

On April 3 and 4, the “4th Latin America Ports Forum” took place in Panama. Organized by Industry Exchange, creators of the Latin America Energy Summit, among other events in Mexico and Latin America, and IMI was present participating in masterly exhibitions by leaders of the port, logistics, infrastructure and maritime industries, as well as sharing the exchange of information on new trends, projects and business opportunities in the region.

Panama Maritime 2019. March 18, 19 & 20.

Recently this year, we went to the fourteenth version of the most important annual conference ot the maritime, ports, and logistic industries, organized by the Panamanian Maritime Chamber along with the Panamanian Maritime Law Association and co-organized by the Canal of Panama Authority and the Panamanian Maritiem Authority. This year been the main topic: “Taking advantages of the evolutive trends of the industry, a more ecological maritime industry, digital and autonomous”

The conference was attended by leading international exhibitors in the industry who discussed important issues such as regulations, efficiency, environmental protection among others.

WWL ALS – Logistic Cargo Transportation from MIT to Punta Rincon (Mine Trucks)

Transportation of Liebherr T284 OHT Articulated Mining Trucks from Manzanillo International Terminal to the Punta Rincon Quay. Each truck has a capacity of 1,030 m3.

Kanan Overseas – Dock System for Energy Barges

This project consisted of the installation of 48” diameter Piles and related works, including the supply of Equipment and labour to drive piles with 48″ diameter and length of 25m, as well as the modification of the existing rings to dock a power barge (124 MW), and the manufacture of the new sliding structures, sandblasting works, piles painting, driving works, and tugboat maneuvers for the entry and positioning of the new power barge.

VOPAK – Demolition Contract – Bahia Las Minas Phase – 1A

The project consisted of the demolition of the existing North Jetty in order to provide space for the new marine facility at Bahia Las Minas, Colón, Panama, awarded to Intercoastal Marine Inc.

DIPA – Dry excavation and dredging works at Agua Clara locks

The project consisted of on shore excavation and dredging works necessary to construct the finished grades on the west bank of Agua Clara, the Atlantic access channel for the new canal locks.   To perform the works and move the material, on shore land equipment was used for the dry area, and marine equipment was used for excavation and underwater profile for the wet area.  The quantity of material for the dry and wet areas was: 43,811 m3 of material for dry area, and 2,322 m3 of material for the wet area.

DIPA – Removal of structures and debris of the ACP Oil Crib

The project consisted of the removal of steel pipe piles filled with concrete on the Pacific side on the east bank of the canal in the area named Oil Crib, Balboa, from an elevation +1.5m to an elevation of -16.7m MLWS.  This was part of a larger project by the Panama Canal Authority to widen the canal access on the Pacific side of the canal.

VOPAK – Jetty Shoreline Protection Work I &II

This project consisted of th installation of coastal protection along 190m of shoreline on the east side of the Terminal, between the pier and the construction of the new north Jetty (in execution by IMI). The works consisted of excavation works, the supply, transport and the installation of geotextile and armor rock. This required high quality rock material transferred from quarries on the Pacific coast to the Atlantic coast , city of Colón, Republic of Panama.

VOPAK – Panama Terminal Expansion – Marine Works BLM1A

The project was developed under EPC modality and consisted of the design, supply, and construction of marine facilities for a tank farm located at Bahia Las Minas. The marine terminal is designed to operate with 80,000 DWT and 10,000 DWT vessels, and consists of the following elements:

  • Berthing and mooring structures, required to receive product vessels (Monopile diameters between 2.0 m and 2.5 m with weights of up to 102 tons)
  • A Loading platform, required for the support of loading equipment including power packs, gangway systems, and piping.
  • A 175m approach trestle, required for the support of product and utility lines between ship and shore and access for pedestrians and man pulled trolleys to the loading platform.
  • Supply and installation of marine equipment (quick release hooks, fenders, bollards and navigation lights).
  • Supply and installation of the cathodic protection system.
